Adjustable Gastric Banding Surgery, more commonly known as Lap-Band® Surgery, is one of the most popular weight loss surgeries available. Its popularity is a results of its effectivness, safety, and affordability. The surgery involves the placement of a band around the top part of the stomach which creates a smaller stomach pouch. Rather than your entire stomach needing to be full in order for you to feel full on this pouhch needs be full. The band is adjustable so the pouch can be made larger or smaller for each individual's needs.

Unlike older methods of weight loss surgery, Adjustable Gastric Banding (Lap-Band® surgery) surgery does not require the stomach to be stapled. What would normally be accomplished using staples (creating the smaller stomach pouch) is accomplished using the adjustable band. The actual surgery only takes 30 minutes to an hour to perform, on average, and usually only requires a patient to stay on the hopsital for a single day. The Lap-Band® procedure is reversible and adjustment of the band is done with a simple needle puncture in the office.

After bariatric surgery, our patients are first placed on a liquid diet for two weeks and then on a well-balanced, high protein diet.
