SAN
ANTONIO FELLOWSHIP-TRAINED BARIATRIC SURGEONS
After
the completion of a General Surgery residency, a surgeon has the
opportunity to apply for a fellowship in bariatric surgery.
During a formal fellowship, the surgeon receives intensive one-on-one
training from an expert in bariatric surgery for at least one
year. This training includes extensive experience in laparoscopic
bariatric surgical procedures and revision surgeries, as well
as all other aspects of patient care before and after surgery.
This
fellowship training is not required for a general surgeon to
perform bariatric surgery, but both of our surgeons have
completed bariatric surgery fellowships. We are proud to
offer this level of expertise to our patients.

The
Texas Center for Medical and Surgical Weight Loss has
been established exclusively for the advanced medical and
surgical treatment of morbidly obese individuals. Our multidisciplinary
team of healthcare professionals is highly knowledgeable
in medical and surgical methods that promote long-term weight
control. Each patient receives an evaluation to assess the
right combination of therapies to achieve the desired goal.
A comprehensive treatment
plan is designed to promote weight loss and to reduce the
medical complications caused by the disease. Patients
receive a detailed Patient Care Manual of the ongoing treatment
plan. Our team continuously monitors each individual's special
needs for dietary, exercise, and even mental health programs
to sustain weight loss.
The Texas
Center for Medical & Surgical Weight Loss is located
in a specially-designed bariatric unit of Northeast
Baptist Hospital. This unit represents
a hospital within a hospital, solely dedicated to the care
of bariatric patients. Surgery is performed using
state-of-the-art equipment in specialized operating rooms
and monitored by a nursing staff trained to care for bariatric
patients. It features oversized private rooms with
wood floors, monitored beds, and a very low patient-to-nurse
ratio. |

and patients can share their experiences. It is a unique
opportunity for patients to develop camaraderie, seek help,
and provide encouragement to others who may be just beginning

Testimonials
[Go Back]
"Dr. Cavazos
is the most dedicated doctor I have ever met and I have
seen many doctors. He has always been there for me
and returns my calls promptly. He has been very supportive,
and when you go through a "life change" like this, you really
need that support. He has helped me become a new person.
I dropped several dress sizes and now I get compliments
all the time." -Pam
"This is the best thing
I ever did. I had been looking into gastric bypass
surgery for five years and saw many surgeons. Dr.
Cavazos is the only one who put me to ease.
And. I love your support groups. I have so much fun
at them!" --Rebecca
"I want to mention how
impressed I was by your office and, of course, Dr. Cavazos.
I expected a much older doctor, but I was pleased with his
presentation and the personal touches that he made.
I have been to several bariatric presentations and yours
was the best I've seen by far. You make an effort
to humanize all of the patients and address our every question
and concern. I feel very confident coming there for
this procedure, and appreciate all your help in getting
things done so that we can move forward with the surgical
process." -Deborah
"I felt like my
weight was out of control and something needed to happen.
I was so scared. I started researching Dr. Cavazos
and was so comfortable with him. My only regret is
I didn't have this surgery sooner. I was totally shocked
how well it went and how great I felt." -Linda
"It was the greatest
thing I ever did for myself. And that is the key -
I did it for myself. After only three months, I already
look and feel much better. I no longer need to use
my CPAP machine at night. I recently completed a 26
mile bike ride, and I am training for a 150 mile bike ride!"
